Originally named Holford’s Prairie back in the 1840s, Lewisville began to expand rapidly with the completion of Lewisville Lake, which serves as a water source for Dallas and its suburbs. Further growth came when the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport opened south of the city in 1974.
